Australia MUST allow nuclear-generated electricity. Not using the old and tested methods of Solid Fuel reactors but the new Molten Salt Reactors that run at atmospheric pressure (so cant explode), Consume spent nuclear fuel from Solid fuel reactors, are built in a factory, so the safety standards are 100% complied with, Can be located where ever electricity is needed, without the need for vulnerable expensive transmission lines of thousand of Kilometres in length. Can run for around 40 years without any attention, and are walk-away safe. No human intervention if something did happen to go wrong. By replacing Coal Fired power stations with Nuclear powered ones IN THE SAME Facility Australia would reduce its CO2 emissions by 430 MILLION tons a year. Let alone replacing diesel-powered equipment in all the mining sites around Australia (or the world). NO Pollution, NO waste products, no greenhouse gasses and very cheap electricity. For one example have a look at elysiumindustries.com. And please watch this video explaining the huge advantages of nuclear

Thanks for the post John. No facebook censoring here, and updates to the topic wont get lost. I'm all for modern safe nuclear as you know.

Please Do some more research Daniel. Yes Molten salt reactors do have a small component of waste. But this waste has a life of around 100 years. The current nuclear waste has a HALF life of tens of thousands of years. And Molten Sodium Chloride Fast Reactor actually consumes pent nuclear fuel that everyone is worried about and uses the 97% of energy left in it. Total Deaths from Nuclear facilities (including Chernobyl 65 and Fukushima 0) is about 90 since the began around 60 years ago. COAL is responsible for 30,000 US coal fired power plants were estimated, in the 2000s, to continue to cause between 10,000 and 30,000 latent, or air pollution-related deaths per year, due to the emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and directly emitted particulate matter that result when coal is burnt.
So you have your coal and die and i will have my nuclear and live
